This box is made from solid London plane and measures approximately W330mm x D100mm x H55mm. It has two separate compartments and the bases of these are lined with light grey suede.
The two lids feature inlaid sections of sycamore veneer and coloured tulipwood veneers and the handles are machined from solid brass.

For the body of the box nothing more than a gentle wipe with a slightly damp cloth then polished with a dry cloth, should ever be necessary. The brass handles will get duller over time but a careful polish with Brasso (or similar) will restore their original shine.
One often thinks of woods with the most highly figured grains coming in the main from the continent. London Plane is a British hardwood that is very much an exception to that thinking. Sometimes having a tight consistent grain not dissimilar to beech and sometimes, depending on the cut it is nothing short of spectacular. Usually, with a fairly bold lid design, I would choose a wood that is plain by contrast but this is not the case here where both the lid and the wood of the box have some visual punch. Always searching for a minimal line, the lids of this box are inspired by the sculptures of the American artist, Donald Judd
