Description:

This box is made from solid English Oak and measures approximately W145mm x D145mm x H55mm. The quarter sawn oak used here features some very distinctive medullary rays and the boldly striped lid features natural oak veneer and dyed black tulip veneer.
The base of the box features an ebonised oak recessed plinth detail which adds a hint of elegance and visually unites the body of the box with the inset lid. The handle of the lid is turned from solid brass. The inside of the box is lined with a very fine grained light grey leather.

Weight 330 gm
Dimensions 145 × 145 × 55 cm
Care Instructions:

For the body of the box nothing more than a gentle wipe with a lint free cloth or a feather duster should ever be necessary. The brass handle will get duller over time but a careful polish with Brasso (or similar) will restore its original shine.

Story:

The boldness of the Shibuya pedestrian crossing in Tokyo was the inspiration for the veneered pattern on the lid.

Mainly, I make boxes from a tiny workshop in my garden in North London. The material for these is predominantly wood. However, in addition to wood I like to use acrylic, plastic laminate and brass. These wonderfully uniform man made materials can provide a striking contrast with the natural, and sometimes very random texture, of solid wood and veneer. I have a design background, studying furniture design at Edinburgh in the early eighties and working in different aspects of branding design with several London based design consultancies, ever since.
