Eluned’s work is a homage to Victorian Ceramics. By re-creating similar forms and recognisable handles, there is a chance encounter between newly created ceramic objects and their ancestors. The forms speak for themselves, and the decorative, colourful qualities of Victorian ceramics are cast aside – leaving a faint trail of past influences from the modernist and cubist movements to these contemporary ceramic objects.
She recycles existing ceramic pieces from charity shops, re-creating new forms which are then cast in pottery plaster and finally slip-cast in Earthenware clay.
It is the marriage of form and function that intrigues her and the distortion of the domestic object which is familiar yet foreign in form.
