Make your own reclaimed leather card and coin pouch
In Person 1 hour   Leather
Summary

Learn to make a leather pouch sized to hold cards and coins, cut from offcuts and reclaimed leather, material that already existed before it reached your hands. Finished with carefully set rivets and a brass press stud closure, you'll choose your own colour combination, mixing and matching the body and flap. You'll get a taste of several traditional leatherworking techniques: bevelling, hardware setting and edge finishing, guided through setting the stud and burnishing the edges to a clean finish. There's an option to add embossed initials, making it something extra special to give as a gift. No experience needed, just a willingness to get stuck into some proper making.

What you’ll do

I'll explain the whole process and introduce the product. 1. Participants will select their preferred colours and finishes from pre-cut leather pieces. 2. Next we'll work on the edges, using a bevelling tool followed by edge dye, and sealing with a burnishing tool. 3. Then, we'll punch the holes ready for hardware, an optional initials can be embossed. 4. Next, the pouches will be assembled, by attaching the rivets and press studs. And you're done! Gift boxes are provided to keep it safe on your way home.

What to bring

Nothing required.

What you’ll get

TILT//SHIFT Leatherworks

I'm Candy, I run Tilt//Shift Leatherworks from my workshop in Shoreham, Kent. I've been a professional leather worker for 10 years. I design and make bags and small leather goods that are contemporary, yet functional and elegant. I use reclaimed or vintage leather hides and materials whenever possible. The materials-led, creative process of working with finite materials means I create limited edition pieces for people to treasure.
