Description:

Honey Fungus Large Round Earrings are cast in recycled silver from honey fungus, giving them a very organic texture. They are 37mm in diameter and have a width of approximately 5mm. All are hallmarked with my maker’s mark and feature handcrafted earring wires in recycled silver. They are part of my honey fungus collection. My most recent collection is inspired by the Honey Fungus (Armillaria mellea), I became excited and inspired to use the eye-catching beauty of this pathogenic fungus. This can have a very devastating effect in our UK gardens. However, the network of rhizomorphs that spread underground have an incredible texture and are extremely beautiful. I began to cast directly from these Honey Fungus rhizomorphs, resulting in my visually exciting, stunning and dynamic jewellery collection.

Nicky Barton Jewellery

Living and working on Dartmoor has had a positive and profound impact on my work and my aim became to reflect the tactile qualities of the surrounding flora and fauna, within my jewellery making. I began experimenting with transposing these surface qualities by reproducing the textures through casting in silver: reticulating and hammering the surface of the metal and embedding semi-precious stones to reflect the natural colours of my environment.
