Using vibrant tones of teal, turquoise, green and amber this curved glass artwork has been created by painting and fusing different types and grades of sheet and crushed glass.
The egret is painted onto the base glass and fused. Following this initial firing more hand drawn detail is applied using glass enamels and then refined using the sgraffito method. Colour is applied by cutting coloured sheet glass and applying different grades of coloured crushed glass.
The glass is mounted onto a solid ash plinth and supported by nickel plated glass fixings.
A beautiful decorative item which can be placed in either natural or artificial light. The many vibrant colours of the glass will be reflected onto any surface.

Wildlife, especially birds have been one of the major sources of inspiration for my work. I am particularly fascinated by flying birds and try to represent their movement and energy using glass paints and coloured glass.
I live near an area of wetland and during an early morning walk last summer, one small egret took flight out of the reeds. Using glass paints and the application of different coloured, hand cut, sheet glass and crushed glass, I’ve been able to capture the subdued atmosphere and shimmering light reflecting from the water.
