This summer, Scotland’s renowned Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh will play host to the third edition of international craft and design fair, Handmade Edinburgh. Taking place from Friday 10 – Sunday 12 August, the event is a unique addition to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Celebrating the best in high-end design and craftsmanship, Handmade Edinburgh is a fabulous opportunity to shop for gorgeous textiles, jewellery, ceramics, furniture and more, in an extraordinary and picturesque setting. Over 80 British and international designer-makers will showcase their work inside an elegant purpose-built marquee in front of Inverleith House, so you can enjoy the delights of the beautiful botanic gardens and discover some of the world’s most talented craftspeople all in one visit.

With makers available throughout the event, Handmade Edinburgh offers the chance to unearth the stories, inspirations and processes behind the work, discuss bespoke commissions and see their latest collections up close.

How to get there:
There are a number of ways you can get to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh:

Walk

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is a 25 minute (1.5 mile) walk from Edinburgh Waverly train station.

Bicycle
The National Cycle Network Route 75 runs very close to the East Gate of the garden, providing a dedicated traffic-free cycle path. There are bicycle racks located at the garden entrances on Inverleith Row and Arboretum Place.

Bus
Lothian buses run three public bus services to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh: numbers: 8, 23 and 27. These buses stop at the East Gate on Inverleith Row. For bus timetables and routes, please visit: lothianbuses.com

Train
The closest train station to the City Centre is Edinburgh Waverley, Edinburgh’s main railway station. Trains to Edinburgh Waverly run from many major cities and towns across the UK, including: Glasgow, Aberdeen, London, Bristol, Sheffield, Newcastle, Leeds, York, Manchester.

Lothian bus route 8 takes you from Edinburgh Waverley train station to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

Air
Edinburgh Airport is approximately 8 miles from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. A regular bus service and tram service run between the airport and the city centre, both taking approximately 30 minutes. The Airlink 100 bus service is 24 hours, 7 days a week with buses running every 10 minutes. The Tram service operates every 7 minutes between 06:18 and 22:48. By Car
The journey to Edinburgh is a scenic treat either by car or bus. The city is connected to the East Coast of the UK via the A1(M) and it is a short trip to Glasgow on the M8. By coach
Coach services run directly to Edinburgh Bus Station from destinations throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK. Edinburgh Bus Station is situated on Elder Street in the centre of Edinburgh.

APPLICATION FEE

Please note that there is an application fee of £20. We have many applicants for each show and this is necessary in order to assess everyone fairly. You only need to pay the application fee once, even if you are applying for multiple events.

CONTRACT DEPOSIT

All applications must be accompanied by a signed exhibition space contract. This can either be posted to: Handmade in Britain, Studio 10, Old Paradise Yard, 20 Carlisle Lane, London SE1 7LG or email to: events@handmadeinbritain.co.uk.

Ticket prices:
Adult £5 + booking fee
Concession £4 + booking fee

Concession prices are applicable to students, registered unemployed, visitors with disabilities, senior citizens and children under the age of 18. Proof of status must be presented on arrival at the Handmade Edinburgh marquee.

Tickets will also be available to purchase during the event from the Handmade Edinburgh marquee at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

Tickets will be exchanged for a ticket for a wristband, allowing you to come and go throughout the day (10am – 5.30pm).
