My studio ceramic art is mainly designed for wall display, I regard my work more as a painting which just happens to be a 3D ceramic form, and my glazes are applied in a more painterly manner. The bulk of my work over the past few years has been inspired by local markets of fish, fruit and vegetables, in this country as well as on my travels. I love the excitement of colours, shapes and forms of the produce neatly displayed in rows or haphazardly piled up. Markets are also about the people, their environment, lifestyle and cuisine, this all fascinates me! Other inspiration for my wall art is still life subject matter from the kitchen table - fish, fruit and veg waiting to be prepared for a meal. My work is mixed media, with handmade wood box frames and I often include old cutlery I find in flea markets on my travels.
My other ceramic projects include handmade tiles, colourful contemporary mosaics for wall display, colourful plates and platters, and garden sculptural pieces.
One of my 'product extensions' (to use a marketing phrase!) I have had images of ceramic wall art of fish fruit and veg boxes high quality printed onto reclaimed wood panels. Each print is unique due to the textures and grain of wood which shows through, adding to the uniqueness of the image. This gives the piece a slight distressed effect which adds interest. I hand embellish each and then sign and number as an edition of 30 for each image. I have four sizes of wood panels from largest at 70x88cms to very small 32x40cms. I can also print to a bespoke size. They make a great colourful focal point to any room!
I have a purpose built studio and exhibition area in Milton Keynes, and work there most days of week, always welcome to see visitors or those who are just interested - just contact me before hand to check I'm there!
