Our Festival

For nearly two decades, Handmade in Britain has been a leader in the craft industry, supporting talented makers and connecting them with customers who appreciate quality.

Held at Waterperry Gardens—the venue for the BBC series Make It At Market (seasons 2 & 3)—this annual festival showcases ceramics, jewellery, sculpture, fashion, furniture, homewares, art, and textiles. The three-day event also includes craft demonstrations, workshops, live music, and artisan food.

Each exhibitor is carefully selected by our team to ensure high standards of craft and design. We are now accepting applications – Apply Now to be a part of this amazing event.

Our Venue

Waterperry Gardens, located in Oxfordshire, is an acclaimed 8-acre garden celebrated for its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant plant collections, and serene ambiance. Originally a horticultural school, it has evolved into a cultural hub, hosting diverse events and exhibitions. This year, the 5th edition of the Handmade Oxford Festival will take place on the lawns in front of the historic Waterperry House.

WILLOW LEAPING HARE

Julie Livesey at Pip Cottage

DATE: Saturday 14th June 11am – 1pm

DURATION: 2 hours
COST: £40 pp

Make your very own leaping hare. Julie will demonstrate step by step how to bend and weave willow to create this 2D sculpture, using a figure of 8 and rand weaves. The final leaping hare can be used to adorn a wall or as a hanging.

INTRODUCTION TO LINOCUT ON PAPER OR FABRIC

DATES: Thursday 12th June, Friday 13th June, Saturday 14th June
11am – 1pm, and 2pm – 4pm

Learn how to carve and print your own lino block by hand. Join Eleanor where you will be guided through the process of designing, carving, and printing your own Lino block onto cards, prints and tote bags.

NETTLE FIBRE WORKSHOP

Beekay Makes

DATES: Friday 13th June,
10.30am – 1pm, and 2pm – 4.30pm

DURATION: 2.5 hours
COST: £40 pp

Join Brigitte on her time travels through textile history, while learning how to make fibre from local stinging nettles. An ancient fibre plant, nettles have been used for over 3000 years up until the 18th century for everything from heavy sailcloth to fine table linen.

Prices starting from £19 for standard entry and £25 for a VIP ticket. Your ticket includes entrance to the ornamental gardens at Waterperry Gardens.

*Festival tickets can be purchased without garden entry starting from £9

On-site tickets will be available at regular rates.

Concession tickets cater to students over 16 with a valid student card and senior citizens (60+)

From Oxford: Follow A40 East – London. Take the 3rd exit after Thornhill Park and Ride (signposted Wheatley). Follow brown signs to Waterperry Gardens and yellow AA signs for Handmade Oxford.
From Birmingham (M40 South): Exit M40 at Junction 8a (Oxford Services). At the 2nd roundabout, follow signs for A40 Oxford, then turn right towards Wheatley and Waterperry. Follow brown signs to Waterperry and yellow AA signs.
From London (M40 North): Exit M40 at Junction 8 (A40 Oxford). Take the 1st exit for Wheatley and Waterperry, turn left, and follow brown signs to Waterperry and yellow AA signs.

Taxi: A local cab company operates from Haddenham & Thame Parkway station car park.

Can I purchase tickets onsite ?

Yes, tickets can be purchased on the day, but please note they will not include the discounted online prices.

What's included with a VIP Ticket?

Upgrade to a VIP ticket for Fast Track Entry, early access from 9:30am, priority parking, and a complimentary drink (Prosecco, Aperol Spritz, beer, or soft drink) to elevate your Festival experience.

Who qualifies for concessions and free tickets?

Concession tickets are available for students (16+ with valid ID) and seniors (60+). Children under 16 enter free, and carers receive a complimentary ticket with proof of eligibility at the entrance.

What are the opening times and fees for Waterperry Gardens?

Waterperry Gardens is open daily, 10:00am–5:30pm. Entry fees apply to the ornamental gardens, supporting their upkeep.

The Handmade Oxford Festival offers a combined Festival & Garden Ticket.

Do we have to pay for the Car Parking ?

No ! Car Parking is free and is included in the ticket prices

Are food and drink available at the festival ?

Yes, the festival offers a variety of artisan food caterers, including vegetarian and vegan options.

Are the dogs allowed at the festival?

Yes, well-behaved dogs on a leash and guide dogs are welcome

How do I book a Workshop?

Spaces will be LIMITED for each workshop, so don’t miss out! Please note, workshop tickets will not allow free entry to the Festival. Festival tickets must be purchased to attend any workshop.

Demonstrations

Watch live craft demonstrations and engage with the artists. Sharing insights and expertise, showing techniques and giving tips – there is a wealth of experience to explore – don’t miss this chance to find out more!

A Demonstration Schedule will be published in the lead up to the Festival, and available at the entrance gate.

ACCESSIBILITY

Arriving at Handmade Oxford

If you arrive by Car, we have designated parking spaces for Blue Badge holders.

Wheelchairs and Mobility Scooters

The Festival is on grass and most areas are accessible to visitors in wheelchairs but Handmade Oxford is unable to provide any push/motorised wheelchairs for hire.

Toilets

Accessible Toilets and Baby change facilities are available within the Festival site.

We are encouraging contactless card payments, wherever possible.

There will be no cash withdrawal facility on site available.

Dogs

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome at the Festival. Shaded areas can be found around the Festival site.

Please note no dogs allowed in the Formal Gardens.

Wifi & Mobile

There is good 4G/5G mobile signal across the Festival site.

No Wi-Fi is accessible.

Will there be filming and photography?

Please be aware that filming and photography are taking place at Handmade Oxford for promotional and archival purposes.

The photographs and recordings captured are likely to be featured on our website.

If you would prefer not to be photographed please let the photographer know.

Group bookings for ten or more tickets are perfect for Organisations, Clubs or Associations, Schools or Universities, Travel and Coach Operators or Social Groups. Book in advance to secure a complimentary parking space for your coach.
