Fairy Light Lampshade Workshop

Summary
Make a string of mini lampshades for warm, cozy lighting perfect for any room. You will create a unique string of fairy lights, each covered with a handmade mini lampshade. This relaxed and creative workshop, led by Modern Makers Collective co-founder Aimée Alice Payton, is perfect for anyone who loves fabric, interiors, or simply wants to try something new.
What you’ll do
You will get to choose from a selection of gorgeous fabrics or bring your own to match your décor if you wish. Then, with Aimée expert guidance, you will cut your own shapes from lampshade-making materials and learn how to neatly finish your mini shades. This workshop is beginner-friendly, with no sewing involved.
What to bring
Everything is provided but if you would like to bring some fabric that you love, please feel free. Cotton, linen and wool work perfectly.

Modern Makers Collective
Modern Makers Collective co-founder, Aimée Alice Payton, blends traditional techniques with a contemporary eye for textiles to create statement upholstery and lampshades. Her lampshades take on a sculptural quality through pleating, gathering, and the creative use of negative space, with coloured linings that transform the way light plays across fabric. Inspired by classic and historic furniture forms, and working with natural materials such as hair, jute, and cotton, her upholstery often features unexpected textile pairings that offer a fresh perspective on time-honoured styles. With a background in textile history and experience in museum collections—as well as earlier studies in Theatre Design, Aimée brings a playful, thoughtful sensibility to every piece, balancing heritage with reinvention. Aimée is an experienced maker with a love for vibrant fabrics and thoughtful design. She enjoys helping others create their own beautiful home accessories.
