This handmade perspex conifer leaf necklace was inspired by Victorian jet necklaces. The surface pattern was created using individual conifer leaves. They are collected, dried and pressed then used to emboss the surface. I use my own method of dying and embossing acrylic which I call ‘fossilized plastic’ due to the fine details, like fossils, that are captured on the embossed surface. The colours (in this case lemon yellow and green) are applied around the leaves like stencils, making each component individual.
I harness nature to create original pieces, which are a memory of each individual skeleton leaf. This botanical necklace evokes both a contemporary and a vintage feel. A classic piece that can be worn for years. I have found the necklaces attract a lot of attention!
