Description:

The imagery on this pin is inspired by the Parliamentary scrolls on which the Representation of the People Act is written upon and is from the ‘New Dawn’ jewellery collection commissioned by The Houses of Parliament in 2016 & 2018. The design is resist printed onto anodised aluminum by hand then dyed a vibrant purple. The alumnium is polished to give it a shiny surface prior to printing and is completely colourfast.

Materials: Printed and dyed anodised aluminium with a sterling silver pin and stopper.
Size: Disk approx 23mm in diametre with a 6cm pin.
Gift Box: This pin comes in the same beautiful white gift box that originally accompanied purchases from the launch of ‘New Dawn’ at the Houses of Parliament shop.

Care Instructions:

Keep your pin in the original box when not worn and in a damp free place.
Any silver components and stoppers, should occasionally be polished with a duster or silver cloth.
Aluminium areas should be washed with soapy water then rinsed thoroughly and dried with a soft cloth.

Sally Lees was commissioned in 2016 to create a collection of jewellery to accompany the installation of ‘New Dawn’, a light sculpture by Mary Branson to celebrate women’s suffrage.

Sally Lees Contemporary Jewellery

Sally has a passion for making beautiful things. She is a metalworker at heart and uses her traditional jewellery making skills and those of printing and dying aluminium to create stylish original jewellery.
After studying art and design in the North of England Sally was selected to have a studio amongst the wealth of talent at Cockpit Arts in London.
Her ethos is to hand make her products not manufacture them.
Sally is featured on The Crafts Council Directory. and has appeared on the BBC’s Learning Zone.
She currently also teaches jewellery at the Mary Ward Centre in central London and has taught jewellery making at Cockpit Arts, Designercourses, Greenwich Community College and London Metropolitan University.
Her cufflinks are featured in the jewellery making books: ‘Anodized! Brilliant Colours and Bold Designs in Aluminium’ by Clare Stiles and ‘Coloured Aluminium Jewellery: Design and Make’ by Lindsey Mann; and her jewellery is also featured in ‘Colours adn Textures of Jewellery’ by Nina Gilbey and Beckkie Ora Cheeseman.
In 2016 Sally was commissioned by the Houses of Parliament to make a collection of jewellery inspired by and to accompany Mary Branson’s New Dawn light sculpture celebrating women’s suffrage. In 2018 she was re-commissioned to re create the collection with additional items and new colour combinations.
