The hare has been hand built from Ashraf Hanna stoneware clay using a slab technique. The clay is then left to dry for a week then fired 2-3 times. Ashraf Hanna clay is naturally very white but this has been enhanced by applying porcelain slip to the whole of the piece before the first firing. A mixture of oxides is applied at the bisque ware stage and then wiped back to reveal relief features and markings on the sculpture which is then high fired to stoneware temperature. Finally gold leaf is applied to ears and other areas. All my sculptures are individually made and unique so if not in stock they will be made to commission so please allow 2-3 weeks for making and delivery

I work from my studio in the Southern area of the Lake District. I often see hares running in the open ares around here so have made a number of grey and brown hares in different poses. I was inspired to make a winter hare after a visit to the Highlands of Scotland when I saw one running on the mountainside. They can be quite conspicuous if there is no snow around.
