This functional porcelain jug has an embroidered textile texture showing key elements of the willow pattern story. I machine embroidered the willow tree, birds and orange tree, made a plaster cast of them and used this to pressmould and handbuild the jug. Once the jug was bisque fired, I overpainted the stitches with cobalt and fired again to give a rich blue. The interior and handle have a glossy transparent glaze and the exterior is matt. There are three sprigged buttons on the base.

I have been developing ideas of storytelling within the motifs that I use and the willow pattern has to be one of the most iconic and beautiful stories told across a piece of ceramics.
