One of the Vestigium Series glass sculptures, multi-cast glass layers with ethereal inclusions. Surface textures were cast from medieval remains unearthed during archaeological excavations at Woking Palace, Surrey (residence of Henry VII and Henry VIII).
The glass has been cold worked and polished.
23.7 x 7.2 x 12.5 cm
Dusting with a soft cloth, if necessary a damp cloth before polishing. Take care if wearing rings - as metal can scratch glass.
My “Vestigium Series” of glass sculptures has been developed as a response to the idea that we all leave “a trace, a memory”. I have created ethereal artefacts that have been cast within layers of clear and coloured glass, with oxides. Layers have been cast separately and finally together in a final two week kiln firing.
While the “Vestigium Series” reflects my early career as a archaeologist, the glass sculptures are also reminiscent of the ocean or space.
