Solitaire board with inset magnets holding in place 32 chromed steel balls. The magnet recsses are inset with contrasting maple. While playing, the discarded balls are placed into a gradual spiral grooove(s) where they satisfyingly roll to rest. The lower outer edge has a curved rebate, elevating the board from the supporting surface. A lovely addition to any coffee table.

The timber used in these came from an old barn near Tunbridge Wells. It was an extremely heavy board but relatively small, so I decided to make some solitaire boards from it. The wood has been identified as cork oak (probably from Iberia) which I have fumed (a process using ammonia) to darken and enhance the grain. Because of the high density, it takes on a beautiful lustre. They are finished in 3 coats of Osmo oil.
