Description:

This striking sculptural skin-textured ring is made exclusively from fully traceable certified Fairmined Sterling silver incorporating 6 beautiful reclaimed rubies that emerge glistening through the surface.

This ring is a UK size O.

About the Fairmined metals:
Fairmined silver is a by-product of gold extraction from the Fairmined certified mines and is therefore very rare. This silver goes through the exact same auditing process as Fairmined gold from mine to me to ensure full traceability at every stage throughout the supply chain and assures the miners fair pay. As a result Fairmined silver is more expensive per gram than recycled silver sources.

I have chosen Fairmined Ecological gold as the gold option for this collection as it is extracted and processed without the use of any toxic chemicals.

About the gemstones:
All of the gemstones in this collection are reclaimed from fellow independent jewellers, stone setters and bench workers. They are either stones removed from pieces from repairs and remodels, or stones accidentally scratched, chipped or broken during setting and subsequently discarded as waste. Each stone is entirely unique and resurrected in this collection to live and be loved again.

Care Instructions:

Protect all of your jewellery as much as you can from excessive heat, sunlight, sweat, swimming pools and chlorinated water, chemicals and cosmetics. The finish and patination of your jewellery will develop naturally as it's worn. They begin to take on a finish and character that is uniquely yours.

Story:

SKINS: blood, sweat & tears is made exclusively in Fairmined precious metals and reclaimed gemstones. An extension to my signature SKINS Collection featuring extraordinary layers, folds and textures created by the interaction and intervention of my skin against the material.
I use my body as the primary tool to directly form each piece leaving the imprint of my skin as it is created.

SKINS: blood, sweat & tears is dedicated to raising awareness of how precious materials come into being and the effect this has on people and the environment whilst supporting initiatives that actively make a positive economic, social and environmental impact in mining communities.

This collection seeks to create an intimate and meaningful human connection between producer, maker and wearer.

A portion of each piece sold will be donated to Humanitarian Aid Charities.

Charlotte E Padgham Contemporary Art & Jewellery

Charlotte E Padgham is an experimental and sustainable artist and jewellery designer-maker exploring themes of transition, manipulation, ephemerality and ‘imperfection’ using found objects, waste material and organic matter fused with precious and semi-precious elements. She has a fascination with texture, degradation and decay and in the traces and residues left behind often using her body as tool and material to explore the transference, intervention and preservation of the self.

Circular economy principles are an integral part of her process. With a focus and commitment to ethical and sustainable making, materials and waste are reused, reworked and recycled within and across her art and jewellery practices. She is passionate about sourcing materials with her own hands, re-using what is already in circulation, and giving new life to what cannot be recycled.

Since early 2020, Charlotte has researched and developed systems for reclaiming and reusing waste silver from used photographic fixer to plate and form elements of her jewellery and artworks. She has also initiated several methods of reusing waste non-recyclable resin-coated photographic paper and Polaroids as a new material for creating wearable photographs and jewellery including ‘gemstones’, sculptural objects and intaglio prints. This element of her work has been documented in two publications by The Sustainable Darkroom and London Alternative Photography Collective.

All of Charlotte’s precious metal jewellery is Hallmarked at the London Assay Office, and she is a registered Fairmined goldsmith.

Charlotte is a member of the Association for Contemporary Jewellery, The Society of British Jewellers, The Guild of Jewellery Designers and Precious Collective. She is also included in the Crafts Council Directory and was amongst the first 50 jewellers to have taken the Fair Luxury Pledge in 2021
