Striking long tubular beads form the basis of this mid-length necklace. The eleven handmade glass beads have been threaded onto sterling silver wire to form links and joined at the neck with a clasp. Made on bases of red the surface patterns are made up of dots and lines in shades of olive green, ivory and red glasses. All the beads in this piece are different, but complementary.
The beads have been lightly etched to remove some of the surface gloss resulting in a matte finish. The silver work has been patinated to complement this.
The beads vary from 43x8mm to 51x9mm and the overall length of the necklace including the clasp is 65.5cm.
POST AND PACKING
In order to reduce waste the necklace will be packed in a drawstring linen bag which can be re-used.

The beads have been annealed for strength and resilience but could break if dropped on a hard stone surface.
Gentle wash in warm soapy water. Avoid using silver polishing cloth on the silver if you want to retain the patination.
I like to play around with dots of glass on the surface of a bead, the way they are placed and their proximity to each other influences their final shape. With these beads I wanted to create squares as well as rounds and so placed large dots close to each other to achieve a squared effect. The finished look, especially with the wavy bands on some of the beads, has resulted in a somewhat ‘psychadelic’ appearance, reminding me of patterns from the ’70s.
