I was also thinking of summer picnics – of making jewellery out of grass or flowers, like daisy chains, to wear round your wrist. I have also taken some inspiration from tattoos. I use the traditional blue as the colour for the earrings so it’s ambiguous to tell if it is a tattoo on the skin or on the earrings. This colourful art jewellery is handmade using grasses which I found in Victoria Park, near my house. I collect, dry and press the grasses then heat the acrylic and press the grasses into the surface. I use them as a stencil to apply the colours, which give my floral jewellery a modern feel. The grasses are then peeled off to reveal the design. This is a method of dying and embossing plastic I developed myself. I call it ‘Fossilised Plastic’.

I make handmade contemporary jewellery each piece, if it is a necklace, earring, or cuff, is individually handmade using real flowers and leaves to create the designs. I collect dry and press the leaves and flowers and then use them to create the designs. The leaves or flowers perish in the process so each piece is unique as are all leaves and flowers . The surface is embossed with fine detail of the foliage shows. They are a memory or a ‘fossil’ of each individual leaf or flower. My work changes with the seasons as plants grow up and die down. I have always found observing how beautiful the world is at this moment, has got me over many things. So I want to share this with the people who wear my jewellery.
Made with 100% Recycled Acrylic
It is important to me that I am not contributing to the increase of plastic waste but am doing something to re-purpose some of it. All the acrylic I use is made from 100% recycled materials. It is also free from volatile organic compounds and hydrofluorocarbon making it more environmentally friendly.
