I have spent several periods of time in Tanzania teaching in a hospital and was lucky enough to go on safaris and saw quite a few different species of monkeys. They are fascinating to me as they have many human characteristics. I try to capture the essence of the animal rather than making an exact copy

I hand build wildlife sculptures from clay which are then finished with oxides, underglazes and sometimes lustre and gold leaf. The sculptures are high fired to stoneware temperature so are frost proof and can safely be left outside in the garden My inspiration comes from animals around me in the Cumbrian countryside where I live and having worked in Tanzania some of my pieces have an African theme.
Each sculpture is individually handmade so no two are alike making them a unique gift for someone special
