Product Details

A contemporary and elegant design, the MIMA Side Table offers good looks and practicality. A hexagonal base and top are connected by an array of slender spindles letting lots of light through and resulting in an equally interesting array of shadows. These splayed spindles are arranged around one half of the hexagon with some passing through the base as feet, and form the ideal place to keep your favourite magazines and coffee table books. Two larger spindles support the other half of the hexagon, leaving an open part of the shelf for larger objects or plants. All the spindles support the top and are secured with visible wedged tenons, very strong, and creating an interesting detail on the table top surface.

Handmade from a choice of four British hardwoods as standard, Shown here in Sycamore and Oak, also available in Elm and Ash. Other wood choices can be made available on request, please contact us. Finished with hardwax oil.

The MIMA Side Table is inspired by Windsor Chairs with the array of spindles reminiscent of the backs of Windsor Chairs, and the joinery principle of all parts of the piece furniture entering, exiting or passing through a solid plank of wood. Usually this is the back spindles and legs attaching to the seat plank of the chair, in this case the spindles pass through the table top and are wedged (as with some chairs) and enter the base shelf, with some spindles passing right through to form the table legs. The splayed spindles between the top and shelf create a more ethereal way to connect a table top, the multiple spindles at different angles creating patterns of light and shade. The shelf and spindles then serve as a convenient place to keep your favourite magazines and papers or even a plant which can grow and entwine amongst the spindles.
