This beautiful knife rack in Yew and Maple makes a wonderful statement piece for your kitchen.

It has 9 strong neodymium magnets glued within 0.8 to 1.0mm from the front surface of Yew to ensure secure retention of knives. The central one is a little stronger in order to support your heaviest knife.

The additional 5 knife slots in the rear piece of Maple mean that it is probably the best design you will find when you have a good number of knives to display, but not a huge amount of space in which to do it. Especially if you also want it to look amazing.

There are keyhole slots for screws in the back, with a unique self-levelling mechanism to easily allow for the inevitable inaccuracies when drilling holes in a masonry wall.

Good quality screws and wall-plugs suitable for fixing the knife rack to most types of wall are included along with mounting instructions.

It is finished using a hard-wax oil made from natural oils and waxes designed for use on the best quality kitchen worktops.

Safety Note; This knife Rack, or any other magnetic knife rack, should only be fixed above a worktop, not directly above the floor.

Weight 1 kg
Dimensions 49 × 8 × 5 cm
Care Instructions:

For the most part, just follow your usual dusting regime and use a damp cloth if necessary.
It may eventually be necessary to give it a wipe with a good quality wood finishing oil. A free test sample of Osmo oil will be sufficient.

There are other magnetic knife racks available and there are other slotted knife racks available but I have not seen any others that combine the two.
The design originated when I gave my Mum one of my free-standing sculpted knife racks (non-magnetic) for Christmas. She loved it, but she struggled to find the worktop space and so I designed this version to fit better in her compact kitchen.
In this design, I have sawn a piece of wood showing both heartwood (orange) and sapwood (white) down the middle and glued the two pieces into a mirror image design. It is the first time I have ever seen it done with the sapwood on the inside. I am really excited by the result. I won’t be able to do it very often because the edges of Yew trees are not usually straight enough to glue them like this without cutting into the heartwood.

Please note that the knives shown are not included.

I design and make objects both large and small in beautiful hardwoods.
One of the most important aspects of working with wood is the feeling of being close to nature. You have to work with the material, not against it.
Another is the technical challenge of realising my designs in three dimensions, while always being conscious of how far the timber will allow me to go.
