Kyra’s ceramics in high-fired stoneware and porcelain explore form, colour and pattern to create relatively small scale pieces with a strong visual impact that may provoke pleasure when viewed and used. Each piece is hand-thrown and turned on the wheel: texture, weight, balance and shape are all important components of both the ceramic body and the painted designs in her work; so to is durability. Kyra paints her work in ceramic colours before their first ‘biscuit’ firing; most of her work is then glazed internally in a second firing to 1260 c, with exteriors left unglazed.
