Part of the LABYRINTH series, these geometric, right angle stud earrings have been cast in sterling silver & highlighted in 24ct gold. Each earring has been submerged in an oxidising solution to darken the silver yet leaves the gold untouched, increasing the contrast between the two precious metals. Do not use a silver polishing cloth on oxidised silver jewellery ,if you want to keep the patina. Instead, a soft bristle brush will remove any dirt.
LABYRINTH is a series of geometric, curved and angled jewellery pieces, all made in Scotland from sterling silver and 24ct gold. Developed from a project investigating the remnants of old concrete and metal World War II coastal and road defences that can be found around the UK. All pieces begin with a sterling silver cast piece, which was made from a 3D printed model. Fine layers of 24ct gold sheet are applied to the silver by the ancient gilding technique of keum boo, which translates from Korean as ‘attached gold’. The gold is permanently fused to the surface of the silver, by hand, using heat and pressure. Some pieces have been oxidised to increase the contrast between the precious metals and highlight the luxurious gold.
