A colourful and distinctive necklace made from six richly decorated handmade glass beads and sterling silver. The bases of these beads were made using a variety of red and orange glasses. The detailed surface decoration was achieved by adding layer upon layer of molten glass of many colours, meticulously developing a pattern reminiscent of the amazing Indian textiles that inspired the beads. Each bead has a different decoration adding to the richness of the piece.
The beads have been etched for a matte finish and ‘strung’ on a bar made of thick silver wire which has been attached to a hammered and patinated sterling chain.
The beads vary from 18mm to 20mm diameter. Total length of the necklace including the clasp is 51cm. It can be worn shorter by fixing the clasp to a link further along the chain.
POSTAGE AND PACKING
To reduce waste the necklace will be packaged in a drawstring linen bag which can be re-used.
Postage includes insurance.
Delivery times are estimates. Please contact me if you have specific delivery requirements.
The beads have been annealed to increase strength and resilience. They will take some knocks but if dropped on a hard stone floor too many times may protest! Wash gently in warm soapy water.
Avoid using a silver cleaning cloth on the silver work to retain the patination.
I have loved colourful textiles for many years and these particular beads have been inspired by the rich and glorious embroideries of Jaipur and Kutch in India. I love their use of pattern, decoration and texture as well as their exuberant use of colour.
I designed this bar necklace so the beads could be worn sitting adjacent to each other with no gaps in between. I have another necklace in the ‘Jaipur’ series where the beads have been put on silver links so they hang independently of each other. The beads in the other necklace are rather more muted in colour.
