Description:

Neat every day earrings made from sterling silver. Each hydrangea bloom is approximately 1.3cm in diameter. Each earring is hand fabricated using silver imprinted with dried hydrangea flowers and consequently no two pairs will be exactly the same. The posts are 1cm long. Each stud is secured by a sterling silver butterfly closure and the drop of each earring measures 1.8cm.

Care Instructions:

Sterling silver will naturally tarnish. Exposure to chemicals in perfumes, moisturisers, hairsprays etc will speed up the tarnishing and can permanently damage your jewellery. Do not wear your jewellery when swimming or bathing. To reduce tarnish use a soft silver polishing cloth regularly.

These earrings are from the new Secret Garden collection which explores themes of transforming fragility into strength.
Hydrangea petals look fragile but are amazingly strong. The petals are selected after the flowers have dried out and survived all the weather that autumn and winter can throw at them. These petals imprint into annealed silver in an incredibly detailed way.

Cari-Jane Hakes

Cari-Jane Hakes makes and designs jewellery in her workshop on the edge of the East Yorkshire Wolds.
She is originally from Glasgow, Scotland and learnt how to design whilst studying to become an Architect at the University of Bath and the University of Cambridge. Whilst learning to design buildings and bridges she became fascinated with the details – the bits of architecture that scale a building right down to the size of a human hand – a door handle, a handrail, a staircase, a bench.
Cari swapped her hard-hat and rigger boots for a soldering torch and jeweller’s saw in 2005 and began to learn the discipline of jewellery making and design at Morley College, London.
Cari-Jane’s work explores themes that embody movement; both literal and metaphorical. Her ‘Murmmuring Flock’ collection represents the movement of the starlings that swoop close to her workshop.. Her latest work, The Secret Garden collection, explores themes of transforming fragility into strength.
