This 25 cm bowl, with rounded bottom, consists of an outer circle of clear Bullseye Glass overlain with a circle of gold on black iridescent glass, which has been placed off centre. Thin rods of black glass (called stringers) provide a further decorative element, and the piece is then placed in my kiln for its initial fuse firing. The following day it is placed over a mould and goes back in the kiln, where it slowly slumps into the form. It is an elegant bowl seen on its own, but can also be used for food – looks great with sweets, figs, cherries.
23.5 x 23.5 x 5 cm
Hand wash recommended. Food safe.
I have become fascinated with Bullseye’s gold iridescent glass, each piece of which is subtly different, depending on which part of the large sheet of glass it is cut from. This piece has very little of the purple element that shows up on other pieces I made from the same sheet, but also has a silvery sheen on one side. To further enhance the gold circle, I have added a few black stringers, in an asymmetrical pattern.
