Celebrating Women in Craft ….A quirky, folksy and unique homage to the great British garden designer Gertrude Jekyll and her protégé and friend the equally famous architect Edwin Lutyens.
12 × 9 × 24 cm
There are many narrative layers to this piece.
I have made the piece intentional folksy in its nature and looking like an old garden ornament.
The piece features Gertrude holding a flowerpot containing Edwin to indicate how she helped him to flourish.
Incised into her skirt are the faint sketched out details of a Lutyens style house.
She has been made within the Surrey Hills just a few miles from Gurtrude Jekyll’s home Munsted Wood using clay from the the area and although not entirely watertight she could be used as a vase to hold a single stem of the rose “Gertrude Jekyll”
