Description:

This box is made from solid Ash that has been ebonised and measures W150mm x D150mm x H60mm. The lid is fumed Eucalyptus veneer and features several lines of 1.5mm square section Sycamore. The lid has been finished with a polyurethane gloss lacquer and the handle is machined from solid brass. Inside, the base is lined with tan suede.

Weight 500 gm
Dimensions 150 × 150 × 60 cm
Care Instructions:

For the body and lid of the box, nothing more than a gentle wipe with a slightly damp cloth, followed by a polish with a dry cloth, should ever be necessary. Brass will oxidise over time and a careful polish with Brasso will restore its original shine.

Story:

A dark palette of ebonised ash, tan suede and fumed Eucalyptus is broken up by a random arrangement of Sycamore lines stretching across the lid from edge to edge.

Mainly, I make boxes from a tiny workshop in my garden in North London. The material for these is predominantly wood. However, in addition to wood I like to use acrylic, plastic laminate and brass. These wonderfully uniform man made materials can provide a striking contrast with the natural, and sometimes very random texture, of solid wood and veneer. I have a design background, studying furniture design at Edinburgh in the early eighties and working in different aspects of branding design with several London based design consultancies, ever since.
