Description:

Two simple forms define this box. A laminated block of coloured acrylic strips, sits on top of an American Black Walnut box. The base of the inside of the box is lined with neon yellow/green leather.

Weight 400 gm
Dimensions 95 × 95 × 85 cm
Care Instructions:

For the wood, nothing more than a gentle wipe with a slightly damp cloth, followed by a polish with a dry cloth, should ever be necessary. The acrylic block can be washed in with a soft cloth in soapy water if necessary.

Story:

Strips of coloured acrylic are laminated together and fashioned into a heavy solid block that functions as the lid of this Walnut box. The block rests in place on a rebated shoulder feature that surrounds the inside top edge of the box.

Mainly, I make boxes from a tiny workshop in my garden in North London. The material for these is predominantly wood. However, in addition to wood I like to use acrylic, plastic laminate and brass. These wonderfully uniform man made materials can provide a striking contrast with the natural, and sometimes very random texture, of solid wood and veneer. I have a design background, studying furniture design at Edinburgh in the early eighties and working in different aspects of branding design with several London based design consultancies, ever since.
