Scarf ~ Silk Twill, large square 138×138, eyelash finish
London Imagery ~ Coal holes of Belgravia
Modern Craftsmanship ~ Using psychogeography, my old camera and modern craft tools these images are transformed to reveal its beauty. The craft is separating the greys into 20 or more layers. Each grey is then recoloured, reconfigured, and may be repeated, as the texture is built up. This captures a moment of wonderment.
Each scarf is accompanied by its own scarf card telling its story and revealing part of the original photography
138 x 138 cm
Up to 1956 and the passing of the Clean Air Act, coal was the main source of heating fuel in London. In the wealthier parts of town, a hatch, a coal hole, was bored into the pavement so that the dirty, dusty, coal could be delivered direct to the coal bunker under the road. With over 50 different styles of these cast iron hatches. They are a celebration of Victorian craft smanship and design.
