Handmade kimonos are 100% wool and they feature traditional miniature patterns inspired by nature. Cypress trees and clouds stand out as the contemporary artist Yıldız Şermet’s signature patterns. The black wool kimono is first handmade to measure and then hand-stitched by the artist herself. Each kimono is brimming with the cultural elements of Anatolia and is a product of Şermet’s creative mind and her excellence at craftswomanship.

Miniature painting is one of the oldest art forms in Eastern traditions used by Persian, Indian, Ottoman and Mughal empires. Quite different than the Western style of painting, miniature paintings have a different understanding of perspective, use of colour and subject-matter. Cypress trees and clouds are two characteristic motifs of this kind of painting. Şermet takes these motifs out of context and adapts them into the contemporary world. Her passion for history and tradition leads her to a robust reference to her own culture without compromising her own unique identity as a contemporary artist.
