I was interested in making a sculpture that was part 2D and part 3D so one merges into another. Michelangelo’s prisoners came to mind where the finished sculpture arises from a block of stone.

I hand build wildlife sculptures from clay which are then finished with oxides, underglazes and sometimes lustre and gold leaf. The sculptures are high fired to stoneware temperature so are frost proof and can safely be left outside in the garden My inspiration comes from animals around me in the Cumbrian countryside where I live and having worked in Tanzania some of my pieces have an African theme.
Each sculpture is individually handmade so no two are alike making them a unique gift for someone special
