This is one of my series of cast glass sculptures called ‘A dialogue at the threshold’.
The glass cut off pentagonal pyramid is made of opaque black glass fired with 23.5ct gold
The sculpture’s sides have a textured surface cast from a deeply ribbed fabric.
17 × 17 × 8 cm
Dust, wipe with a damp cloth if required.
A four sided cut off pyramid, wrapped in textured fabric. This covering is pulled back revealing a tantalising gold form hidden beneath the outer layer.
There is an interplay between the inside and the outside, a dialogue at the threshold.
I make the model from cardboard and fabric and cast in plaster. Then the model is discarded, the gold put in place in the empty mould and a crucible of glass put on top to fire over 4 days. Once cool I break away the mould and cold work.
