Delicately carved ceramic wall hanging decorated with coloured clay slips and sgraffito drawings of a Blue tit and apple blossom.

Care Instructions:

Please be aware that the surface of this wall hanging is matt and will pick up any grease marks or dirt from your hand. Please do not hang over heat.

Story:

Every unique design created starts life as a detailed line drawing and once I’m happy this is transferred on paper by hand onto the clay surface. Each piece has been thrown on the wheel, left to slightly dry and then goes through many different processes and techniques developed over my years as a ceramic artist to create my intricate images onto the damp clay surface.
My decoration is a combination of painting with clay slips, carving and using sgraffito to draw the delicate lines onto each design. This takes many hours of work and no two pieces will ever look the same.
Once completed these are left to dry for a few weeks and fired twice in an electric kiln. I have left the decoration matt with no glaze for this piece.
All of my wall hangings have a disc hanger attached to the back as well as four felt feet.
I have developed all the clay slip colours myself making them unique and I am always testing new and exciting colours.

Tiffany Scull ceramics

Tiffany works from her Dorset studio based on Portland creating ceramic forms decorated by hand with detailed Sgraffito drawings of many different plants and animals from around the world. Over time she has developed a very distinctive and unique way of painting with clay slips, carving and using sgraffito to draw her designs onto each form.

Tiffany says ‘discovering and specializing in the decorative technique of Sgraffito has allowed me to pair up my two loves of drawing and clay work’. She views every unique work as a three dimensional clay painting and a celebration of the natural world.

Trying to capture the movement and interaction between different creatures she finds very exciting and hopes to give the impression a bird may take flight from its ceramic home at any moment. Special care is taken to place each creature with in its correct habitat and extensive drawings and research goes into all her designs.

Tiffany also creates detailed watercolour and ink drawings which are turned into quality giclee prints and unique Art cards.
