Made from two different coloured stoneware clays, this platter started off on the potter’s wheel, and was then taken off and stretched to create the asymmetry and texture. Thin layers of oxides brushed on, and a white dolomite glaze applied. Fired to 1260C in oxidation.
27 x 5.5 cm
Hand-wash in warm water.
I love the free and natural shapes that occur when the clay is stretched after throwing in this way. There is always an element of randomness as you can never completely control what will happen. Although this platter is food-safe, I recommend using it for dry foods like fruit as the texture makes it a little harder to clean.
