Handmade in Britain presents a unique selling exhibition showcasing work by new and established British designer-makers, each celebrating London in their own way.

London, being a melting pot of cultures, is a great source of inspiration for many artists of different cultural backgrounds. Excited by our capital becoming a focus for the world in 2012, Handmade in Britain was inspired to launch a show that celebrates British creativity so abundant in London.

The exhibition brings together new and established designer-makers, who reveal their own take on London through textiles, glass, jewellery, metalwork, ceramics and sculpture. Handmade in Britain has created a show where buyers and exhibitors alike are sure to be inspired by quality, originality and Eco-conscious ethos behind the works for sale. Featuring 35 designers from various disciplines, these objects are not mass-produced, but personally crafted by the designer him or herself. The products they create are a result of their inspirations, influences and experiences. Each piece is handmade and reflects the interplay between designer and material to create a unique product of the highest quality.

Amongst the participants are jewellery designer Louise O’Neil [of Studio Fusion Gallery at Oxo Tower Wharf], textile designer Penny Seume, who takes her inspiration from urban landscapes and ceramics designer Norman Yap, who specialises in thrown stoneware and porcelain.

Handmade in Britain is a UK-based organisation aiming to promote emerging as well as established designer-makers who produce their work in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. The organisation works to promote professional design excellence through productive partnerships between the designer and the public.

Handmade in Britain was founded by Designer-maker Piyush Suri and is an initiative to maintain the high standards in the British Craft sector, create market opportunities for buying craft and provide a platform to designer-makers to reach new markets both in UK and internationally. Handmade Book – Series 1

Handmade in Britain is excited to launch their first in the series of design books in 2011.

This book is created to support the resurgence of interest in high quality, handmade British designs and crafts. It features 90 contemporary British designer- makers who represent some of the talented artists working in Britain today.

The launch of the book will coincide with our annual Show at Chelsea Old Town Hall in October with a private view evening of the selected designer-makers work on 27th October 2011.

The book is published in association with Vivays Publishing Ltd.

Handmade in Britain is delighted to announce the launch of a business training programme for designer – makers who are new in business or preparing to get to the next level, giving them advice on how to promote and grow their business along with tips on financial savings.

Handmade in Britain is one of the fastest growing UK based organisation aiming to promote talented British designer makers who produce their work in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. The organisation works to promote professional design excellence through productive partnerships between the designer and the public.

The program is run by Piyush Suri (Designer & Creative Director of Handmade in Britain) who has more than 10 years of experience working in Design industry in India and UK. His clients include National gallery, British Museum, Tate Britain and his work has been exhibited in many international shows such as Maison & Objet (Paris), and Heimtextil (Frankfurt) etc. He also owns a retail gallery Handmade Interiors in London and has been a business consultant for many new businesses and designers since 2007.

Promotion and publicity specific to your brand/product, creative ways of inexpensive marketing, use of social media relevant to your brand, trade and retails shows, promotion strategies, tips & advice on press and media.

Business development

Creating a business plan, identifying target markets, moving to next level in business, international development, outsourcing and other relevant topics useful for business development.

Price

1-2-1 Session

One session (1 hour each): £20.00

5 sessions (1 hour each): £90.00 (to be booked at the same time and used within 6 months)

10 sessions (1 hour each): £160.00 (to be booked at the same time and used within 1 year)

Group Session

£10.00 per person for a 2 hour workshop.

Each workshop will cover one of the relevant topics which will be notified in advance along with the dates and times of the workshop through our website, newsletter and other social media network.

UPDATE – HANDMADE IN BRITAIN RETAIL GALLERY IN INDIA

Due to unavoidable circumstances which includes Commonwealth games, The opening of the retail Gallery RAW & URBAN (by Handmade in Britain) in New Delhi, India is postponed until February 2011.

Applications are still invited from Designer-makers who work in the disciplines of Ceramics, glass, sculpture, and metalwork and create one-off pieces.

Handmade in Britain is proud to announce to make their presence in one of the fastest growing countries – INDIA. We are looking for Contemporary British Artists/Designers for the first retail outlet in New Delhi, India to be opened in Feb 2011. The dates of opening of Retail Gallery are to be confirmed very soon.

Please note that only very conceptual and creative work will be considered for India as the retail gallery will be located in one of the very affluent shopping areas of New Delhi, India. (Terms and conditions apply for the retail Gallery).

The selected designers will be asked to provide the products in a ‘sale or return’ capacity with a list of the trade price of the products. There will be an appropriate mark-up on the products. The mark-up will cover all other costs such as transport, customs, duty, tax, credit card facilities, security, promotion, private view evening and all other expenses.

Please send 6 low resolution images of your work along with no more than 200 words about your work and CV to info@handmadeinbritain.co.uk with a subject title INDIA – Retail Opportunity.

Last date for receiving applications for retail opportunity is 30th November for the launch in 2011 and then ongoing.

The selected Designer-makers will then be sent a contract and terms and conditions along with the deadlines for the submission of work.

Fusion 2010 – Istanbul Show Highlights

Handmade In Britain in association with Bir Nokta gallery Istanbul organised their first Istanbul exhibition showcasing British designer-makers and emerging design talent, ‘Fusion’ to coincide with Istanbul being ‘The European Capital of Culture 2010’.

20 Talented British Designer-makers participated this year in Fusion – Istanbul which was organised by Handmade in Britain in association with Bir Nokta Gallery - a very contemporary art gallery situated in the bohemian neighbourhood of Beyoglu district of Istanbul, Turkey.

The exhibition initially opened for 4 days (6th – 9th May 2010) was extended until 17th May due to a very positive and welcoming response from the members of Public.

Private view evening which was on 6th May saw many famous faces of Istanbul art scene who enjoyed a wonderful evening with wine, food and performance by one of the famous Turkish singers on the gorgeous roof terrace of Bir-Nokta Gallery. The event has been promoted and publicised in many social magazines of Istanbul.

This is one of the first steps by Handmade in Britain towards launching British Designer-makers in the international market.
